Charities

KPAOS are proud to support both local and national charities that have helped members and friends and family. Recent nominated charities include Asthma UK, Heart Link and 2010's charity of choice, the Alzheimer's Society.

KPAOS members have also taken part and are due to take part in several local charity fundraising performances. Following on from the successful Ruby Rainbows concert in 2007 (featured on this website) KPAOS members also took part in Applause which again saw a tour of the county's theatres putting on a performance to raise money for the Lord Mayor's charity The Special Olympics in Leicester. For more information please visit http://www.bbc.co.uk/leicester/content/articles/2009/03/03/applause_shows_feature.shtml

Another chance to see KPAOS members will be in the forthcoming show 'Memories' on the 9th May 2010 at Athena in Leicester. The show features performances of classic musical theatre excerpts including 'Me and My Girl', 'Jolson' and '42nd Street'. All monies raised will go to the Alzheimer's Society and promises to be an evening for all to enjoy and help support this very worthy cause.

In 2007 KPAOS were pleased to announce their support of the Ruby Rainbow Appeal. BBC Radio Leicester celebrated its 40th birthday and as part of their celebrations they pledged to raise £400,000 to help build an extension to the Rainbow’s hospice in Loughborough for teens and 20’s.

The present set up at Rainbows is a wonderful environment for younger children, but teenagers and young adults have different needs and interests. Rainbows aims to raise at least £4 million to extend current facilities for all those using the hospice as well as building the additional facilities for young people.

KPAOS began their support by taking part in the BBC’s charity show “Somewhere over the Ruby Rainbow” where 40 singers from across the county combined for a unique musical experience and in turn raised over £15,000 for the appeal, they also dedicated the Tuesday evening performance of Oliver to the charity and raised £676 in raffle and donations from the cast and audience.
